Decades ago, a now renowned orchestra leader, just starting out as an assistant, experienced a defining moment that would shape his future.
He was rehearsing the Cleveland Orchestra in a Chopin piano concerto. He recalls, "An oboe solo went over me like some kind of tidal wave. I thought, ‘Nothing could make that any more beautiful.' And it came straight from the oboist. It wasn't because I did something."

Not all people are valuable assets, but the vast majority could be if only they were managed properly. The problem is very, very few managers or HR people know how to do that.
Many companies, even those with HR departments, do a very poor job of managing their employees, a poor job of unleashing the full potential of employees. A considerable store of creativity, innovation and productivity exists in every person and the management challenge is to unleash that store and apply it to the goals of the organization.

Having been a coach for many years, in addition to having been involved in the training of at least 1400 coaches worldwide, I have come to the conclusion that one of the greatest skills that we, as coaches, possess and need to perfect is the 'art of the question'. In fact, one could say that another definition of a coach is Master Questioner.
It is important to remember that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of questions we ask ourselves. Some people ask themselves very mediocre questions indeed. For example, "What time shall we go to down the pub?"
